PCIe 3.0 is HERE - That’s right it’s been quite some time since the last time the PCI Express interface was updated from the original standard. Current PCIe 2.1 slots give you 500MB/s per lane which means an x16 slot yields 8GB/s of throughput. The new standard will double that to 1GB/s per lane making a 16GB/s interface possible. As you can see the technology is already being found on the new MSI X79 motherboards as well as the Z68A-GD80(G3) Sandy Bridge socket 1155 mobos.
